Erno van Markus (80) rode the Elfstedentocht three times. In 1985, 1986 and 1997. The last time he skated? ,,A year and a half ago: the winter of ’20/’21. I cycled along the canal here in Nijkerkerveen, saw that people were skating and I didn’t know how fast I had to go home to get my own skates.”
