The previous heat record for February 15 was 15.1 degrees and dates from 1998. This temperature of more than 15 degrees in De Bilt also marks the official first spring day of the year.
In Woensdrecht it even reached 17.9 degrees at 2:30 PM on Thursday. According to the weather service, it was never this warm before on February 15 at a weather station in the Netherlands. In 1958, a temperature of 17.6 degrees was measured at the former weather station Epen in Limburg. The previous record of the current weather stations dates from 2017, when it was 17.1 degrees in Maastricht.
A temperature of 14 degrees was measured in Groningen on Thursday afternoon; in Leeuwarden it was 12 degrees and in Assen 13 degrees.
Temperatures above 15 degrees are becoming increasingly common in February, says Weeronline. A temperature of 6 to 7 degrees is usual in mid-February.
