In the Aki Linnanahde Talk Show podcast, Elina Gustafsson pondered whether she could ever return to a boxing career.
Elina Gustafsson31, feels he started a new life when he retired from boxing in November 2020. Still, he has to admit Aki Linnanahde Talk Show podcast, that he still missed a lot from his boxing career.
– I would have achieved much better if I had had the right people and coaching team around me. But I never had that – I would have had the right skills, but I didn’t know how to “drive properly”, Gustafsson says in the podcast.
– Then again it destroyed me so much that I thought “now this ends”, Gustafsson adds.
Gustafsson says that he enjoyed his life and freedom immensely for the first two years. Although Gustafsson’s life is still wonderful, last fall, with the rest after foot surgery, he started longing to get back into the ring.

Although sometimes the former Olympic boxer longs to return to the ring, at the same time he is struck by the thought that his body may not be able to withstand a return. At least it would require training.
If Gustafsson eventually ends up making a comeback, he thinks the selection would have to be really smooth.
– Actually, the reason why I would do it is for myself. I would make a team that supports me. Then I would be able to show what I couldn’t do in terms of the Olympic style, Gustafsson states in the podcast.
– Would I still make that choice a little ahead of ego – that I would like to show off? I don’t want it to come from the ego side, because I don’t have to show anything anymore, Gustafsson reflects further.
Gustafsson decided to end his career for health reasons. Gustafsson told Iltalehti in 2020 that his decision was confirmed by the bulging of the diaphragm. Although he loves sports and especially boxing, he would not be ready to sacrifice his health for the sport.
– What if I just push forward despite all the body’s warnings? Next, the back will get even worse, Gustafsson told Iltalehte.
– It’s about my health. Boxing is not so valuable that I lose the ability to move.
