Luna Albanese and her dance partner Dimitri Kalistov won all ratings at the World Cup final. No wonder that Papa Roberto’s feelings also spilled over.

At the end tears flowed at Albaneses. No sooner had the winning couple of the Junior World Championships been announced than the emotions gushed out in Luna Albanese, as well as in father Roberto and mother Uta. And with good reason, since the 15-year-old won the title in Latin dance together with dance partner Dimitri Kalistov in the Bremen Congress Center. A success that is unparalleled even among the eager title collectors from the Green Gold Club.

67 dance couples started in Bremen

A total of 66 couples from all over the world took part in the competition. They competed in the dances salsa, cha-cha-cha, rumba, paso doble and jive. Round by round the field thinned out until after the semifinals only six duos were still involved.

Even as the hall announcer announced the participants in the final, it was clear who the Bremen audience would be keeping their fingers crossed for: when the starting number of the Albanese/Kalistov duo, “338”, rang through the loudspeakers, thunderous cheers erupted. Also in the thick of things: ex-Werder star Ailton, who was able to witness first-hand how the young dance duo managed to do something historic in Bremen.

The last time a couple from the state of Bremen won the Latin dance tournament was almost four decades ago. Back then, in 1985, Horst and Andrea Beer had whirled to the world title.

The jury had no doubts that Albanese and Kalistov should now use their home advantage and inherit the two Bremerhavens: The green-gold dancers, who had finished sixth at the World Championships last year, decided all five finals in the ranking -Dances for themselves – or to put it another way: You can’t win a title more clearly. All the more reason for the Albaneses to be proud. And maybe one more reason to shed a few more tears of joy.
