This year’s MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) were supposed to take place on November 5th in Paris. Now Paramount Global canceled the 2023 event and stated that the show will not take place again until next year.
The reason given was security concerns regarding the conflict between Israel and Hamas. A Paramount Global spokesperson said: “Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to hold the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of staff, crew members, artists, fans and partners traveling from all corners of the globe. to bring the show to life”.
“Moment of Sorrow”
“The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music. As we watch the devastating events unfold in Israel and Gaza, this does not feel like a moment for global celebration. “It is a moment of sadness given the thousands of deaths,” he added.
The event will next take place in November 2024. This year, Calvin Harris, Sam Smith, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift were among those nominated. Despite the canceled show, you can still vote for the favorites, but the winners will still receive the prize.
