Israel: Documentary film about the festival massacre announced

The Sipur film studio has announced a documentary about the Israeli festival that fell victim to a Hamas attack on October 7th. In it, participants and key people who attended the Supernova Sukkot Gathering – Parallelo Universo Edition will have their say. The documentary, whose title has not yet been determined, would like to honor the victims. The film will be broadcast on Israel’s Hot Channel 8 and HSCC. Directed by Yariv Mozer.

Documentary with interviews and video footage of the massacre

Hamas’ October 7 massacre at the Supernova music festival at Kibbutz Re’im claimed the lives of an estimated 260 people. Sipur’s documentary now aims to take a detailed look at the festival before, during and after the attack. It will include interviews with investigators, soldiers and journalists, as well as previously unpublished film material collected by festival visitors.

“Their only sin was their desire for music.”

Yariv Mozer, who directed the documentary, says about the subject of his work: “Nothing prepared me for the cruel images. […] As a documentary filmmaker, I see it as my duty to bring the testimonies and horrific stories of the survivors of this massacre to the world. Young women and men whose only sin was their desire for music – and the passion to celebrate free love, spirit and freedom.”

“The world must never forget!”

“We rushed to make this documentary because we believe we must do everything in our power to shed light on the greatest evil committed against our people since the Holocaust,” says Sipur CEO Emilio Schenker about the work. “The Supernova Music Festival must be seen and understood in its entirety to truly understand the significance of the unspeakable crimes against humanity that took place there. The world must never forget.”

A publication date has not yet been set. It is also unclear whether the film will be shown in this country.
