Ismo Leikola reveals: “I’ve driven towards reds”

Ismo Leikola admits that he might be impatient in night traffic.

For his job, Ismo Leikola gets to drive thousands of kilometers a year on gig trips. Top Gear – program, Leikola had one goal: to experience the excitement of a rally car.

– Since I already drive so much because of work, the pleasure rides won’t be terribly done. If you ever get to play on a closed road or track, it’s really nice, Leikola tells Iltalehte in the filming of the program.

Today, Leikola from Jyväskylä lives in the United States. For this reason, he has experience in many types of traffic.

– Both have their pros and cons. In Finland, there may be roads where you don’t encounter anyone all day and you can drive in peace. In winter, with a rear-wheel drive car, you can remove the traction control and throw the rear a bit, Leikola laughs.

– There is not a single gravel road in Los Angeles, all roads are paved. It never rains, let alone snows. You can’t drive your car around in the parking lot there, he continues.

In Los Angeles traffic, Leikola especially enjoys the fact that you can pass on any side of the highway.

– The city has wide roads and the highway can have six or even eight lanes! It’s really nice to go, especially at night.

Ismo Leikola would like speed limits to be raised in Finland. Elle Laitila

Barber shop told Yle in 2022 that he drives towards the reds from time to time. The method is still in use, but Leikola is not very proud of it.

– There is a law in the Yankees that you can turn right towards the red ones. Of course, it shouldn’t be done in Finland. In some places the lights are on at night and there is no one anywhere. It would take a lot of patience not to drive. Maybe sometimes, if it’s absolutely certain that no one is anywhere, I’ve driven towards red lights.

According to Leikola, speed limits in Finland could also be changed.

– Yes, there should be an index increase for speed limits. Inflation has eaten up the speeds. After all, cars today are much safer than in the 80s. For this reason, the limits could also be higher. It feels like they are just being counted.

– Yes, I would often like to drive harder than I could. Sometimes you have to go to the track or some closed section. I started this program because driving is fun and I could have a little fun, Leikola sums up.

In Ismo’s childhood, the Leikola family had a car similar to the one in the picture. Elle Laitila
