An Islamist threat wanted to work as a security guard at the New Year’s Eve party at the Brandenburg Gate. State security checked his personal details and was able to exclude him from the celebration on site.

This emerges from the final report (“VS – only for official use”) of the responsible Directorate 1, which is available to the BZ. According to this, four employees of a security service were checked as part of so-called reliability checks.

Three of them received letters before the party that they were not allowed to work at the Brandenburg Gate. The reason was current and significant crimes such as arson, rape, robbery, threats or resistance to police officers.

In one case, the ban was pronounced on the spot. “In this case, it was a question of a dangerous person from the Salafist scene, who has been put under surveillance by the police,” says the final internal report.

A total of 500 people were checked by state security on New Year’s Eve. The investigators took a closer look at eight of them.
