According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Paris is no longer a safe holiday destination: the French capital is now the first area in Western Europe to not have a green, but a yellow travel advice. The reason? The radical Islamist who, last Saturday evening, not far from the Eiffel Tower, caught unsuspecting walkers tackled with knife and hammer.

Isa was there too

One person was stabbed to death and two others were injured. And that could easily have been Isa Hoes, she says podcast with Marc-Marie Huijbregts. She was at the crime scene. The evening before. “Of course there was a kind of mini-attack. There was a man at the Eiffel Tower. But we were there the night before!”, she says.

Isa is very shocked. “That you think: that’s bizarre, that you just… Imagine walking there! I always find that such a strange idea. Yeah, I know it wasn’t like that, but it’s just a little weirder when it’s the next day and you’re there.”

Marc-Marie thinks it is an intense story. “You were still in Paris?”

Isa received a lot of messages from concerned friends and family. “I was still there. I also received all kinds of texts, like: ‘Is everything going well there? I saw the news.’ So I thought: what is there in Paris that I don’t know about? I didn’t receive a text from you. No news is good news, right?”

Marc-Marie: “No, I would have driven straight to Paris. You get that, right?”

9/11

Has Marc-Marie ever escaped an act of terror? Yes, him too. “I always find things like that… A month before 9/11 I was still in those towers. That’s a bit weird, but then I always think: that’s a bit weird for me, but yeah, but whatever.”
