Is this autumn weather normal or already climate change?

This month can still land on number one!

Since weather records began (1881), almost no October in Berlin has been as warm on average as this year’s. In 2001, the average temperature was 12.6 degrees. Previous leader! The year 1907 came second with 12.5 degrees. That’s three degrees too warm.

A final statement about October 2022 can only be made once the data for all days has been evaluated. But weather expert Dominik Jung explains when asked about the BZ: “I assume that we will end up with an average of 12.7 degrees for this month.” That would make it the warmest October since weather recording began!

Jung explains that temperatures of 12 degrees have been measured early in the morning in the capital in the past few days: “These are actually the maximum temperatures in October.”

Keyword maximum temperature: It was cracked this year in Berlin on October 17th – 24.4 degrees.

Reason for the late summer weather: the southwest current. “But the current is nothing unusual, it’s always existed,” says Jung.

The special thing is that the weather conditions have now settled and have remained unchanged for weeks. “That has increased in recent years,” explains the meteorologist.

Experts are still investigating to what extent climate change is responsible for this.
