Is the season over, Mr. Rose?

At Borussia Dortmund it is time to lick wounds after the bitter knockout round in the DFB Cup against FC St. Pauli. In the upcoming Bundesliga duel with TSG Hoffenheim, BVB would like to deal with frustration. Coach Marco Rose answered questions from the media ahead of the away game.

The most important statements to read:

+++ Is Marco Reus dubbed? +++

“It’s now January 21 and we had 14 days of vacation. After that we played at Eintracht Frankfurt and played one of our best games of the season against Freiburg. Where was Marco then? We can always discuss individual players, but in the end it’s over so that we always have a lot of things being questioned when we lose. Our job is not to cater to these clichés and to let the gaps in which we disappoint our fans grow bigger. Marco is our captain.”

+++ Why did you lend Knauff? +++

“We believe that Ansgar can continue to develop at the highest level in a Bundesliga team like Frankfurt.”

+++ How do you rate Hoffenheim? +++

“Hoffenheim have a good squad that is difficult to calculate. They are of a caliber that deserves to be up there. We have to be ready.”

+++ How do you see the situation in central defence? +++

“Competition is something important. I think the chain has often set itself up. Now Zagadou is back, we have Marin Pongracic and Emre Can, who is currently injured. Manuel Akanji was playing an outstanding season before his injury and Trying to get back into the rhythm now. Mats Hummels had a difficult start but has stabilized lately. I see Dan-Axel Zagadou in the starting XI for the long term. We would like to keep him here.”

+++ What is the personnel situation? +++

“Nothing is changing that much. Gio Reyna is on the right track so we think he can be available after the international break. Emre is out with a small torn hamstring.”

+++ Why did you switch to St. Pauli so late? +++

“We had young attacking players out, but they didn’t all have a rhythm due to injuries. It’s also a question of the system. Maybe we could have switched to two strikers. But we’re trying to make decisions to the best of our knowledge and belief.”

+++ Why didn’t your team come back? +++

“In Frankfurt we won 3-2 and then everyone said ‘Wow, what a push’. In Hamburg we also had two or three good opportunities where St. Pauli threw themselves in between. If we could do that 2: Shoot 2 and win in overtime, everyone says ‘what a game’. It’s always a fine line.”

+++ How big is the disappointment? +++

“The disappointment is still great. But there is another competition tomorrow. Things always move quickly in the Bundesliga. But after the DFB Cup, it’s important to focus on the Bundesliga again quickly. That was also the tenor to the team. Of course, it was clearly shown once again that we missed a great opportunity and that the way we played wasn’t good, it was weak.”

+++ How is Dahoud? +++

“Yesterday he was able to participate in parts of the training. It’s not as if he didn’t feel anything. But there is hope that he can participate tomorrow.”

+++ BVB-PK begins +++

Coach Marco Rose enters the podium. The Dortmund press conference can start!

+++ Is the season over for BVB? +++

Eliminated in the Champions League and the DFB Cup, six points behind FC Bayern in the Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund threatens to go without a title this season, although the Westphalians are still represented in the Europa League. “Should we give up now, or what?” replied BVB captain Marco Reus after the cup-out on “ARD” when he was asked about the disappointing starting position for the remainder of the season. At the Dortmund press conference, coach Marco Rose is likely to reformulate the goals for the season.

+++ How does BVB react to the cup end? +++

Due to the surprising 2-1 defeat by FC St. Pauli, Borussia Dortmund missed out on defending their title in the DFB Cup. In the away game at the Millerntor, BVB showed a poor performance and presented themselves harmlessly and passively both in attack and in defence. Can the black and yellow show a reaction at TSG Hoffenheim (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.)?
