Is the Olympics in Germany getting closer?

According to a media report, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) wants to prepare the way for the Olympic Games in Germany at the general meeting on December 3rd in Baden-Baden.

As the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” reports, citing conference documents, the delegates should in principle clear the way for an application. So far there has been neither a favorite city or region nor a desired Olympic year and no decision as to whether the games should be in summer or in winter.

According to the report, the aim is to hold a referendum on September 1, 2024, following the European Football Championship in Germany and the Olympic Games in Paris.

Then it should also be about names, dates and a specific application to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As early as February 1st next year, a staff unit for Olympic bids is to be set up at the DOSB board.

Germany last hosted the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972. The 50th anniversary was celebrated at the European Championships last summer.

Following the successful multi-sport event, the calls for a German Olympic bid became louder. After Munich, there were seven unsuccessful applications, most recently due to a lack of public approval.
