Borussia Mönchengladbach disappointed under the Austrian in 2021/22, the European Cup was missed. Now apparently Hütter himself is up for grabs.
Are Borussia Mönchengladbach and coach Adi Hütter going their separate ways again after one season? According to information from Sport Bild, the Bundesliga soccer club is already looking for possible successors for the Austrian. Sport1 also reported that Gladbach had spoken to advisors from other coaches, the Rheinische Post wrote about a conversation between the club and the coach that should be “open-ended”.
Sports director Roland Virkus had avoided a clear commitment to Hütter before the game against TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday (from 3.30 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). According to Virkus, the club “wanted to continue with Hütter, and we’ll discuss everything else.” Hütter himself explained: “I have a contract, I have nothing else to do, I don’t want to say more about it.”
The 52-year-old was signed by Gladbach for 7.5 million euros from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer as the successor to Marco Rose, who had moved to Dortmund. This season, the team from the Lower Rhine did not live up to expectations under his direction. The European Cup places quickly moved out of reach, before the 34th matchday Borussia was only tenth.
