Who is who? That was the big question during the big collection round in the parental home of Anne-Kees Meines in Tuitjenhorn. After the sudden death of his father Jilt last year, the family was left with more than a hundred portraits by the hand of ‘father’. ‘Not throw awaybut give it away’, thought Anne-Kees. A call on Facebook yielded dozens of responses. Today the portraits have been picked up by the ‘models’ themselves. “Very happy with it. I’ve never seen it myself.”
A bustle of interest and many happy and surprised faces with all the portraits that are handed out. not For many visitors it is quite a search between the dozens of portraits that are displayed in an empty house that is ready for renovation. Only the first candidate was not a model. “I have come to collect the portrait from my mother-in-law. She was a model, but is now suffering from dementia. We have never seen the portrait. Very happy with it.”
Anne-Kees Meines: “The most important thing is that we make people happy with their portrait or their loved one on it. It is my father’s life’s work and it will continue to exist to some extent. I think he would have liked it very much. “
Below is the report of the collection afternoon in Tuitjenhorn.
Not all paintings have been collected yet, says Anne Kees Meines afterwards. “We can even keep a round.” Beyond his expectations, he still received gifts from the ‘models’ who came to collect their portraits. The remaining paintings may be exhibited in the church in Warmenhuizen or go to the drawing school where Jilt Meines painted.
