It remains to be wondered whether it is possible to do sports while fasting in Ramadan. Some say that doing sports on an empty stomach is harmful, while others claim the opposite. So, ‘Is it possible to do sports while fasting in Ramadan?’ What is the correct answer to the question?
Dietitian İrem Tufan answered all questions about the month of Ramadan to our editor Görkem Ağgündüz for ‘Fit Live’, which will begin its publication life soon.
“A WHO DOES SPORTS CAN FAST”
“Like everything else, this is a situation that can completely change from person to person. We are not against the fasting of the athlete. We aim the athlete to fast in a healthier way by preparing the nutrition program beforehand. In this way, we prevent the performance of the athlete from falling down.
With the right nutrition plan and training at the right times, an athlete can fast, of course.”
“WE DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO BE MADE ON AN OPEN STOVE”
“A person who is accustomed to doing sports on an empty stomach can do sports during the period of fasting until iftar if his blood sugar is not affected.
An athlete loses a lot of fluid during training. Since that fluid loss cannot be replaced later, this can result in both poor performance and injury. Therefore, we do not recommend doing it on an empty stomach.
“THE BEST TIME IS A FEW HOURS AFTER IFTAR”
“I can say that the ideal time to do sports while fasting in Ramadan is usually a few hours after iftar.”
