Experts doubt the possibility of banning cryptocurrency mining in Russia
Implementing the proposal to ban mining and circulation of cryptocurrencies in Russia will be technically difficult and impractical, according to experts interviewed by RBC.
- So, in order to catch a miner, it will be necessary to identify places of significant energy consumption, but in practice this cannot be done in bulk and remotely, especially in remote areas. Each object will have to be checked live, since it will be difficult to distinguish a farm from, for example, a greenhouse in terms of energy consumption. It is possible to introduce a ban on crypto-currency transactions, but it will be difficult to track the implementation of such a ban, the market will turn black.
- The day before, the Central Bank proposed to ban the issuance, exchange and circulation of cryptocurrencies in Russia, as they are used by individuals for speculation, transfers abroad and money laundering. The regulator proposes to introduce penalties for the use of cryptocurrency and its mining.
