Is Frenchman who killed wife and four children still alive? “Witness saw him in San Francisco” | Abroad

Is Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès dead or alive? Eleven years after his disappearance, there may be a new clue. The man, who is suspected of murdering his wife and four children, is said to have been seen in the United States, Soir Mag revealed.

Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès has been missing since the bodies of his wife and four children were discovered in Nantes in April 2011, under the terrace of the family home. The then 50-year-old father was immediately suspected of the murders and was notified internationally. But the man could not be caught all these years.

At this point, no one knows whether Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès committed suicide or escaped justice. Nearly three years ago, police thought they had caught the fugitive Frenchman when a man was wrongfully arrested at Glasgow airport.

San Francisco

A new lead may be able to restart the investigation. His former landlady and neighbor has said she crossed paths with the killer in 2015 in San Francisco, while she was visiting her son, an “employee of a Silicon Valley multinational.”

“Fitted Shirt”

When Catherine D. entered a store, she bumped into a person. She would have recognized the fugitive man immediately and said his first name aloud. The man was wearing a “fitted shirt” and his beard was “shaven immaculately”. But he immediately ran: “He opened his eyes wide before he fled.”

Would this man have run away if it wasn’t him? His childhood friend Bruno de Stabenrath therefore considers it “very likely” that the man in question was Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, he says. “If it hadn’t been Xavier, he would have simply replied ‘Hello madam’,” the man says.

The woman in question did not inform the police at the time, but “the information would have spread outside the family circle six months ago”, according to ‘Soir Mag’. And for Bruno de Stabenrath, the testimony is based on true facts. “They are somewhat sober people. They never made up a story like that. Catherine D. really ran into Xavier in 2015.” But a downer for the investigators is that Catherine D. has since passed away.

The family of Agnés Hodanger, the murdered wife of Dupont de Ligonnès, is said to have urged the French judiciary to investigate this avenue further.

However, ‘Soir Mag’ indicates that the investigating judge in charge of the case has not yet confirmed the existence of the new element.
