Is FC Bayern scaring away talent? Ex-coach speaks plainly

After two years in FC Bayern’s youth team, Danny Galm left the club in the summer to coach a men’s team for the first time. The new trainer at SV Sandhausen has now spoken about his experiences as a talent promoter in Munich in an interview.

In the last few weeks, a debate has broken out around FC Bayern about the manageable professional prospects for the club’s own juniors.

Only rarely were young talents from the campus able to establish themselves in the Bundesliga team; some subsequently felt put off and made their breakthrough elsewhere.

There is no lack of necessary potential. “There are great youth players at FC Bayern,” emphasized Danny Galm, who looked after the record champions’ U19 and Youth League team until June, in an interview with “Sport1”.

The 37-year-old did not want to let the public accusation of a lack of access to talent stand – even though he no longer works for FCB.

“Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel have had many players train with them at the top. This opportunity to train with the best players in the world helps the boys move forward,” Galm made clear. Of course, this “shouldn’t just be a one-off thing”.

“It’s a very difficult step at FC Bayern”

According to Galm, the promotion of young players in professional training should be a constantly evolving process.

“A youth player trains there, brings in his input, brings out his strengths and then it’s about stabilizing that. At some point a talent should not only train, but also be used in the game,” explained Sandhäuser.

This is exactly what has been lacking in Munich in recent years. “Everyone knows that this step is very difficult at FC Bayern. The best players in the world are there. That’s why it can also be possible to get started in the professional field through a loan deal,” noted Galm.
