The residents of the Blauwe Poort, a social housing estate in Sint-Pieters near Bruges, were startled by a loud bang on Tuesday night. It soon became apparent that there was malicious intent. A projectile was thrown towards a house that eventually exploded. There was damage to the house, but according to initial reports there were no injuries. Mayor Dirk De fauw (CD&V) confirms that an investigation is underway, but he cannot say much either. “During the night, DOVO arrived on site together with the fire brigade,” says De fauw. “Research will have to show in which direction this should be sought – for example drug-related or not. The public prosecutor’s office will conduct further investigation.”
