The Islamic State terror group has claimed responsibility for the shooting in the northern city of Hadera, about 50 kilometers north of Tel Aviv, in which two Israeli police officers were killed on Sunday. At least six people were also injured in the attack. Four of them had to be taken to hospital and two others were treated on the spot. IS itself speaks on Telegram of ten injured.
Officers killed the two attackers, both Israeli citizens of Arab descent.
At the time of the attack, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid was hosting his colleagues from three Arab states that recently normalized ties with Israel, along with a top Egyptian diplomat and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The meeting was at a resort in the south of the country and was “historic” according to Israel.
