The current fifth season of the dystopian science fiction series “Black Mirror” was released almost three years ago. Since then it had become quiet about the extremely successful series. Will there be another season coming out? The American industry magazineVarietyclaims to have learned that a sixth season is in the works. It is said to have more episodes than season five, which consisted of only three feature-length episodes (“Striking Vipers,” starring Anthony Mackie and Yahya Abdul-Matteen II, “Smithereens,” starring Andrew Scott, and “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too,” starring Miley Cyrus).
“Black Mirror” goes back to the idea of Charlie Brooker and deals with possible interrelationships between technology, media and society. Each episode stands for itself and tells an independent story that is not related to the other episodes. The series also repeatedly takes up philosophical questions and thought experiments.
Black Mirror Season 6 Casting Reportedly Begun
The first two seasons of the series were still running on the American television network “Channel 4” before Netflix secured the rights and produced new seasons. Only on the streaming provider did “Black Mirror” become a real hit with the public. In 2018, the interactive film “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” was released on Netflix, in which the viewer can make decisions for the main character and thus change the ending of the film. Basically, “Black Mirror” is characterized by a very high production effort, which will probably not change in the sixth season. Another season hasn’t been officially announced yet, but “Variety” cites insider sources that the casting has already started, which suggests that filming will start soon and the announcement can’t be long in coming.
