Is 1. FC Köln poaching at Hertha BSC? Trio in focus

In the search for reinforcements for the coming season, 1. FC Köln has apparently focused on Hertha BSC. Three players are apparently in the sights of the cathedral city club.

As the Cologne portal “Geissblog” reports, Effzeh coach Steffen Baumgart and license player manager Thomas Kessler watched the test match between Hertha BSC and RWD Molenbeek (2-1) in Leogang, Austria.

According to the report, those responsible in Cologne could have taken a closer look at a Hertha trio: goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow, offensive player Marco Richter and right-back Jonjoe Kenny.

Schwolow didn’t play in the test, but he fits in well with 1. FC Köln’s profile. The keeper, who was last loaned to FC Schalke 04, is still tied to Hertha until 2025, but he probably has no future with the old lady. A loan deal could suit both clubs.

Richter also in Augsburg sights?

The same applies to judges, whose contract is also valid for two years. The offensive all-rounder has been associated with a move to Cologne several times in the past.

Richter was last traded at FC Augsburg. Managing director Stefan Reuter even confirmed the interest: “We asked because Marco has a high reputation with us,” he told the “Augsburger Allgemeine”.

Kenny is aiming for Hertha farewell

Cologne is also looking for reinforcements in the right-back position. Kenny might be a suitable candidate. At least the Englishman wants to leave Hertha in the summer and continue to play first class. There is also a loan option for the ex-Schalke player.

After relegation, Hertha BSC is urgently dependent on transfer proceeds to fill the tight coffers. Jessic Ngankam (Eintracht Frankfurt), Omar Alderete (FC Getafe), Santiago Ascacíbar (Estudiantes), Maximilian Mittelstädt (VfB Stuttgart) and Tolga Cigerci (Ankaragücü) have already left the club in the capital.
