Iron Lynx becomes a works team in Lamborghini’s LMDh program. This was announced by the Italian carmaker on Saturday at the Lamborghini World Finals in Portimao.
The Italian team, which was only founded in 2017 and has previously driven with Ferrari in GT racing, will be responsible for Lamborghini’s LMDh entries in the Endurance World Championship (WEC) and in the IMSA series from 2024.
“Ever since we announced our intention to compete in the LMDh, it was clear to us that Iron Lynx was the right partner to take this important step,” says Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann.
“I’m delighted to welcome the team to the Lamborghini family. Over the years, Iron Lynx has proven to be a fast, strong and successful company, just like Lamborghini’s motorsport division,” continued Winkelmann.
Also in GT racing, change from Ferrari to Lamborghini
As part of the new partnership, Iron Lynx will also switch to Lamborghini in GT3 racing in 2023, fielding the Evo2 version of the Huracan GT3 in GT World Challenge Europe (GTWCE) and IMSA.
In parallel, the test and development program with the LMDh car from Lamborghini will be carried out next year. The technical partner of Iron Lynx remains the Italian racing team Prema.
Lamborghini has not yet announced any further details about the LMDh car, which will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine and whose chassis will be built by Ligier.
Lamborghini past in the one-make cup
“I’m very proud of the partnership with Iron Lynx,” says Lamborghini Motorsport Director Giorgio Sanna. “It is like the Lamborghini Squadra Corse a young team that, like us, has grown exponentially over the years and has become a protagonist in GT racing around the world after making its debut with us in the Super Trofeo in 2018. “
“Now we find ourselves together again and we will strive to become stronger, more mature and set ourselves big goals. From the GT programs to LMDh, we have united the excellence of three Italian organizations while, through Iron Lynx, we have a technical partnership with Prema Engineering, with which it is our job to achieve great results,” Sanna continues.
In previous years, Iron Lynx had entered Ferrari 488s in the GTE and GT3 versions in the WEC and GTWCE, including an all-women team with Rahel Frey, Michelle Gatting and Sarah Bovy in the WEC.
