Iris Bouwers succeeds Koop Drost as a municipal councilor for the CDA in De Wolden. She is a well-known face in the agricultural world, she was previously a lobbyist in Brussels for farmers’ interest organization LTO.
Council membership is not new to Bouwers, she previously served on the Dronten council for the CDA. On February 23, she will be installed in De Wolden during the council meeting. A spot will become available there due to the departure of Koop Drost. De Zuidwoldiger cannot combine council work with work in his own company.
Together with party leader Karin Brouwer and Tamar de Boer-Overbeek, Bouwers will soon form the CDA party in De Wolden. During last year’s municipal elections, she was in 10th place on the party’s electoral list, collecting 153 votes, just short of preference votes for a seat on the council.
Bouwers (29) is co-owner of a farm just outside Zuidwolde. The family business combines arable farming with the breeding of fattening pigs. She is also a member of various boards and supervisory boards. In 2019 she started her lobbying work in Brussels, last summer she resigned from those tasks.
