Actress Iris Berben (72) has been campaigning against right-wing extremism and anti-Semitism for many years.
BZ spoke to her at the opening of a Jewish education center in Wilmersdorf.
BZ: Ms. Berben, how important is the opening of the Jewish Education Center for Berlin?
Iris Berben: It means cohesion, exchange, togetherness. Every piece of Jewish life that takes place again in Germany is a bulwark against hatred.
What can society do?
We notice that we have to do much more to combat anti-Semitism and exclusion. It’s part of a society to position itself so broadly that we don’t always only meet on certain commemorative days
show our attitude.
The number of people of Jewish faith is growing in Berlin.
They send a signal that they want to live here, with us and in our society.
