Irene Moors caused a shock with the revelation that in 2015, after stopping Life 4 You, she was offered to do Eigen Huis & Tuin. “That is honestly an insult.”
It was a major miscalculation by Irene Moors: she pulled the plug on her successful Sunday show with Carlo Boszhard in 2015 because she wanted a late-night program. One problem: then RTL boss Erland Galjaard did not feel like it. What did he allow her to do? Eigen Huis & Tuin, RTL’s redeemable hand-me-down.
Bad transfer
Irene was very shocked by this offer from Wendy van Dijk’s husband and that is why she switched to SBS 6, a transfer that led to three years of flops. “It is of course seen as a legendarily bad switch, which heralded the end of her TV career,” says media critic Victor Vlam in the ever-entertaining podcast The Communicados.
He continues: “Of course, she can now only be seen in the commercial breaks of the Friends Lottery commercials. SBS 6 was not a wise switch in her case.”
Relegation
Yet Victor understands her. “If she wanted to continue working at RTL 4, she should have presented Eigen Huis & Tuin. That is the offer she received from the RTL management. The programs she did were personality programs and then back to Eigen Huis & Tuin…”
He continues: “She would be the successor to Quinty Trustfull. Yes, Eigen Huis & Tuin is kind of where the B-presenters who don’t have too much personality sit. I can imagine that you see that as relegation. That explains to me why she switched to SBS 6.”
Insult
It was a big blow for Irene. “It indicates to me that fundamental mistakes were made at RTL 4 at that time. At the time, decisions were made based on favoritism. Whether you belonged to Erland’s club. That is a sign that someone has become too powerful and has started to believe in themselves too much.”
One thing is certain: Erland has insulted Irene, Victor concludes. “To be honest, I think the offer to have Irene Moors present Eigen Huis & Tuin at that moment was an insulting offer, if I’m honest.”
Walk of Fame
It is actually just disrespectful that Erland offered this job to Irene, according to Victor. “This is a presenter who has literally been with the channel since day one, she has a star on the RTL Walk of Fame and that really doesn’t fit in.”
Finally: “I honestly think it’s an insult. I was a bit shocked when I heard this.”
