Mahsa Amini’s death became like this the symbol of violence against women under the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The arrest of the actress, therefore, it comes under the crackdown on all kinds of anti-government protests inside Iran. And after she was incarcerated, many authorities – including the Cannes Film Festival itself, in which she took part this year – mobilized for her release.
“I will pay any price to defend my rights”
Last November 5, the co-star of the Oscar-winning film The client he had published a post on Instagram, in which he fearlessly challenged the regime. «I’m staying and I’m not going to leave as they say. I have no passport nor residency in any country other than Iran. I will stay, I will stop working, I will stand by the families of the prisoners and the people killed and I will demand that their rights be respected».
And he continued. «I will fight for my home. I will pay any price to defend my rights and, above all, I believe in what we are building together today”.
On December 8, however, he had written of the first hanging of one of the protesters arrested during the repression by the authorities. “Iran has executed a protester. A 23-year-old boy arrested, tried and killed in less than two months. His name is Mohsen Shekari. Any international organization that stands by and watches this bloodbath and takes no action is a disgrace to humanity».

He boycotted the 2017 Oscars to protest Trump’s immigration policies
Taraneh Alidoosti’s lawyer has made public the amount of the bail paid for his release: 10 billion rials, i.e about 225 thousand euros.
The actress is among the most famous in Iran. In 2002 she won as Best Actress to the Locarno Festival thanks to his role in Man, taraneh, panzdah sal daram. Between 2015 and 2016 she was among the protagonists of the famous Iranian TV series Shahrzad.
She co-starred in the film The client of 2016 by Asghar Farhadi, a film loosely based on Death of a traveling salesman by Arthur Miller e academy award winner as Best foreign film.
Moreover, Taraneh Alidoosti herself had announced her boycott of the 2017 Academy Awards: his gesture was a protest against the immigration policies desired by the new US president Donald Trump, which prevented citizens from countries with an Islamic majority from entering the United States. Including his Iran.
