On September 12th, the iPhone 15 will be presented and Apple will reorganize its product range. This is probably over for the iPhone mini series.
The iPhone has grown steadily over the years. From the original 3.5 inches in the 2007 original, the screen size has almost doubled to 6.7 inches in the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Many users therefore longed for a more compact model – a wish that Apple fulfilled in 2020 with the iPhone 12 mini. The company even upped the ante with the 13 mini, but demand fell short of expectations. With the iPhone 14 Plus, things went in the other direction towards a larger device. Today the iPhone 13 mini is the last compact iPhone. Now that too could disappear.
iPhone 13 mini flies out of the line-up
Apple recently stopped selling the iPhone 11 as a refurbished device. That was the first sign of how the company will structure its iPhone portfolio in the future. In addition to the iPhone 14, the iPhone 13 as a standard and mini variant and the iPhone 12 are currently for sale. Apple had already canceled the iPhone 12 mini last year – the same fate now threatens the 13 mini.
If the forecasts come true, Apple will bring back a Plus model with the iPhone 15 and not a mini. The new series will then consist of iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will also be available for sale. The iPhone 13 is still on offer as a cheaper alternative – but only in the larger 6.1-inch version.
Are the days of the iPhone mini numbered?
The change means that Apple will stop production of the 13 mini completely. However, it’s likely that the device will be available as a refurbished option through the Apple Store for a while. In addition, many retailers still have the smartphone in stock.
In the future, Apple will only offer the iPhone SE with Touch ID as a “mini” option. However, insider rumors are circulating that the company is planning to completely overhaul the SE range – with a modern design and a larger screen. The days of the compact iPhone could finally be numbered.
