iPhone 12 remains for sale despite excessive radiation, inspection sees no acute risks | Tech

The iPhone 12 will remain for sale in the Netherlands for the time being. Although in some cases the smartphone emits too much radiation, this does not pose any acute health risks. A temporary sales ban such as in France is therefore not an option now, says the National Digital Infrastructure Inspectorate (RDI).

The telecom regulator is now waiting to see what adjustments Apple will make to ensure that the iPhone 12 meets European standards. After the update for the iPhone 12, European regulators will examine whether further steps are necessary. France will take the lead in this. But a spokesperson for the RDI emphasizes that any new measures are far from being introduced. “It’s now Apple’s turn and we’re waiting for that.”

Earlier this month it was announced that the French regulator ANFR had imposed a temporary sales ban on the iPhone 12, which came onto the market in 2020. In some cases, the electromagnetic radiation exceeded the standards within the European Union. Apple states that the radiation decreases when the iPhone 12 detects movement, writes the RDI. But the agency itself cannot determine with certainty whether this actually happens.
