IOC session in Mumbai postponed for the time being

The session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) planned for May 2023 in Mumbai to choose the Olympic host for the 2030 Winter Games has been postponed for the time being.

The IOC executive announced this on Thursday in Lausanne and at the same time issued a final warning against the Indian NOC of a possible suspension.

The Indian NOK has been under observation by the IOC for months because of a leadership dispute that has been led by a court, among other things. The situation will be reassessed by December and then a decision will be made as to whether India will remain the host of the session with Mumbai or whether it will take place somewhere else in September or October 2023, it said in Lausanne on Thursday.

Should the Indian NOC be suspended, which was the case from 2012 to 2014, the country’s athletes will not be allowed to compete under their flag. In addition, there is no financial support from the NOK in such a case.
