IOC reports death of former CEO François Carrard (83) | Sport

The Swiss lawyer, general manager of the organization between 1989 and 2003, turned 83 years old. He died in his hometown of Lausanne, where the headquarters of the IOC is also located.

Carrard was active under two presidents, the Spaniard Antonio Samaranch and the Belgian Jacques Rogge. “Carrard was a brilliant man, with a broad view of society,” said Thomas Bach, the current president of the Olympic movement. “He was not only a person of sport and of the law, but also of culture. My predecessors have benefited immensely from his knowledge and advice.”
