Carrard was active under two presidents, the Spaniard Antonio Samaranch and the Belgian Jacques Rogge. “Carrard was a brilliant man, with a broad view of society,” said Thomas Bach, the current president of the Olympic movement. “He was not only a person of sport and of the law, but also of culture. My predecessors have benefited immensely from his knowledge and advice.”
