IOC President Bach at “Honeymoon” meeting in Brisbane

IOC President Thomas Bach has praised Brisbane as the venue for the 2032 Olympic Games, but also voiced slight differences.

“It was like a honeymoon meeting,” said the International Olympic Committee chief after meeting members of Australia’s organizing committee in Sydney.

“This honeymoon won’t last forever. As we know from experience, like any marriage, there will be ups and downs,” added Bach. Together they will overcome “some unexpected obstacles”.

Among other things, the inclusion of rescue sports as a new Olympic discipline is being discussed. The IOC President avoided a clear statement.

In rescue sports, lifeguards compete against each other. Initially developed in Australia, similar disciplines for indoor swimming pools also emerged in other countries.

In Germany, it is mainly the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) that promotes rescue sports.
