Involved neighbors collect Sinterklaas presents for children

Eight managers of neighborhood boxes in Purmerend are jointly campaigning to collect Sinterklaas presents. They want to put together a nice package for everyone who doesn’t have money to celebrate Sinterklaas. People can get products from the community cupboards if they need them or bring them if they have any left over.

According to Nancy van Dijk, owner of a neighborhood cupboard and volunteer at the giveaway shop, the campaign is more necessary than ever. “Daily groceries have become so expensive that people cannot make ends meet, even if they have a job.”

She knows from experience what it’s like not to make ends meet. “Fortunately I have been able to put that behind me, but that is why I think it is so important to help people who are having a hard time.”

And that works well, Van Dijk notices. “I see people using it. But people are ashamed of their poverty and that is why I increasingly only see when it gets dark.”

Where are the cupboards?

Anyone who wants to give something away, or needs something, can find the boxes at the following addresses: IJsselstraat 10, Jan van Egmondstraat 11, Puntmosstraat 41, Bandijk 42, Veenweidestraat 27, Johan Wagenaarstraat 65, Koningsvaren 10, Weteringstraat 136, and Kennemerland 95 .

In addition, there will be a collection on Saturday, November 11 from 10 a.m. at the Albert Heijn XL on the mayor D. Kooimanweg. The packages require everything: tasty things such as cord and chocolate bars, lemonade, bottle of wine, coloring books, cuddly toys, etc.
