Investor search failed: Deerberg ceases business operations

The clothing supplier Deerberg GmbH is on the verge of collapse. The company based in Hanstedt, Lower Saxony, which had to file for bankruptcy at the end of June, will close its operations in September, said the preliminary insolvency administrator Friedrich von Kaltenborn-Stachau in a statement published on Monday evening. In the current month, “a sale of the existing fashion items” is now taking place.

The search for new financiers had previously failed: “In the past few weeks we have contacted 200 potentially interested parties, but unfortunately there is currently almost no willingness to invest in the textile industry,” admitted managing director Lars Buschbom in a statement. “Despite our best efforts, we have not found an investor for Deerberg’s sustainable fashion.”

Around 270 employees are affected by the shutdown

Around 270 employees are affected by the now announced termination of the company founded in 1986. The provisional insolvency administrator announced that a large proportion of the company’s administrative staff would be released “on September 1”. The clothing supplier is currently trying to support all employees and the twelve trainees in their search for new jobs.

Deerberg cited “the inflation-related general reluctance to consume, the further consequences of the Ukraine war and the ongoing difficult market situation for fashion brands in multi-channel sales with a focus on distance selling” as reasons for the insolvency. The company was “massively affected” by these adversities. The regular insolvency proceedings are now to be opened on September 1st.
