“The addition that you have made from this platform was an adaptation of the singer-songwriter,” the acting president reproached him.
The acting President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, have clashed this Wednesday at investiture debate in Congress about the literality of the phrase “today is always still” that the poet Antonio Machado wrote.
In his speech this afternoon in the chamber, Sánchez reproduced the quote from Machado (1875-1939) when referring to Catalonia and its desire to coexist with the amnesty. Feijóo, in his turn to speak, has reproached the head of the Executive for not completing the Andalusian poet’s sentence. “Even on dates, he lies”, he has censored him. According to the PP leader, Sánchez has avoided reading the second part of the sentence: “Now is the time to fulfill the promises we made.” The correction that Feijóo has made has raised a closed ovation from the PP bench.
In his reply, Sanchez has dedicated his first words to rectifying the popular leader about the verse, being a contribution from the Madrid musician Ismael Serrano in one of his songs. “My quote from Machado is the valid quote. The addition that you have made from this platform was an adaptation by the singer-songwriter Ismael Serrano to Antonio Machado’s quote,” the President of the Government defended himself when echoing the singer-songwriter’s message on the social network X.
It’s not to give me shit. But that addition is not from Machado. It’s from a server. It is part of the presentation I made of the song “Now” in the recording of a live concert (Uncertainty Principle). 🤷🏻♂️https://t.co/Q5jClGd7bk https://t.co/vlPSLY6K2s

In it, Serrano has pointed out: “It’s not to give me shit. But That addition is not from Machado. It’s from a server. It is part of the presentation I made of the song ‘Now in the recording of a live concert’.
As recorded in the Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library, the quote “today is always still” is the only verse that appears in the last book that was published during Machado’s lifetime (1924), titled ‘New songs’. “That’s what you have to search for things on Google.”, Sánchez reprimanded Núñez Feijóo to the applause of the socialist deputies.

In his response, the president of the PP has commented that more than Serrano, among his favorite singer-songwriters are Luis Eduardo Aute, Javier Krahe and Joaquín Sabina, while he has accused Sánchez of “doing his doctoral theses with Google.” “At Google, you are an expert, there is no doubt“added Feijóo.
