More than ten months after the giant Aquadom aquarium in Berlin burst, the case has been closed for the public prosecutor’s office.

The authorities announced on Tuesday that the investigation had been discontinued. The basis for this is the report on the cause of the accident, which was commissioned by the owner of the aquarium. The public prosecutor’s office received and evaluated this on October 6, 2023.

Since, according to the expert, it cannot be conclusively clarified why exactly the pool burst last December, no further investigative approaches emerged, it was said.

The 16-meter-high Aquadom aquarium with 1,500 fish, which was located in a hotel lobby near Alexanderplatz, burst in the early hours of December 16th. A million liters of water then poured from the destroyed acrylic glass cylinder into the hotel and onto the street. Two people were slightly injured.
