An insulting gesture towards AS Roma fans could have consequences for Inter Milan’s Francesco Acerbi.
After the central defender showed the Roma supporters the middle finger in the Serie A game between the two clubs last Saturday, the Italian Football Association (FIGC) is investigating, as several media outlets unanimously reported. The 36-year-old could be punished with a heavy fine or even a ban.
The former Lazio player scored the first goal for Inter in the first half of the game. After the goal, the video assistant checked the goal and thus ensured a longer waiting time. Meanwhile, Roma fans insulted Acerbi, who had previously played for city rivals Lazio for several years. That’s when Acerbi gave them the middle finger. The gesture didn’t go unnoticed and sparked more boos.
However, the referees did not notice the gesture during the game. It was only afterwards that photos and videos of the middle finger caused outrage. Acerbi is expected to be interviewed in the coming days. A decision should then be made about the punishment.
