According to a media report, Italian national player Alessandro Florenzi from AC Milan is being investigated for his involvement in the latest betting scandal in Italian football.
The Turin public prosecutor’s office has now started an investigation against Florenzi because of allegations of illegal sports betting, as the Agi news agency reported. The 32-year-old is expected to be questioned by the public prosecutor’s office shortly.
In mid-October, a betting scandal involving three young Azzurri stars rocked Italian football. At that time it became known that the Turin public prosecutor’s office and the Italian Football Association (FIGC) were investigating allegations of illegal betting against the two national players Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United and Nicolò Zaniolo from Aston Villa.
At the center of the investigation is their selection colleague Nicolò Fagioli from Juventus Turin. You are suspected of being involved in illegal online sports betting. Players are not allowed to bet on sports in which they are active.
Tonali banned for ten months
The betting scandal has already had its first consequences. Sandro Tonali was banned for ten months and must undergo therapy. According to Italian media reports, Fagioli and Zaniolo are cooperating with the authorities.
Fagioli denies betting on his own team’s games. According to Agi, Zaniolo now claims that he occasionally played poker and blackjack on illegal platforms, but never bet on football. Both are apparently hoping for lower penalties.
