The cause of the major fire in a number of warehouses in Zevenbergen, which released asbestos, is still not clear. The police cannot conduct a trace investigation at the location of the fire on Huizersdijk due to the risk of collapse. According to a police spokesperson, this does not mean that the cause of the fire that raged in mid-December will never become clear.
“We cannot do the technical investigation, but we are still busy finding out the cause of the fire in other ways,” the spokesperson said on Monday. She refers, for example, to conversations with witnesses and viewing camera images.
Soon after the fire, the police indicated that they were taking arson into account. Asbestos was released during the fire. That required a massive clean-up operation. The municipality tries to recover the costs of this from the owner of the warehouses.
