Investigation into asbestos, Oudemolen military workshop closed

Due to the possible presence of asbestos, work in the military workshop in Oudemolen has been temporarily halted. The workshop is closed as a precaution because asbestos particles were found in a similar workshop in Leusden, Utrecht.

“Asbestos was found in Leusden last week during remediation work on the outside of the complex. As a result, activities in the workshop were immediately stopped,” Defense reports. “Because the workshops in Almelo and Oudemolen are working with the same components, work has also been stopped there as a precaution.”

Vehicles are maintained in Oudemolen before departure to Ukraine, for example, it is a branch of Leusden. It is being examined whether there are alternatives to carry out the work. “It is just as difficult,” says a Defense spokesperson. “But it just has to be safe. So it is now important to map it out properly, that research is now underway.”

The Central Government Real Estate Agency is responsible for the buildings. That organization hopes to find out as soon as possible whether there is actually asbestos contamination in Oudemolen and then how it will be cleaned up.
