Inventory with 85,000 objects from Africamuseum handed over to Congo

The Africamuseum and the federal government handed over an inventory of 85,000 Congolese objects to Congolese Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde on Thursday. The aim is to investigate the origin of the documents and to verify whether they have entered Belgium lawfully. Objects that have been acquired illegally are being considered for re-transfer to Congo. State Secretary for Science Policy Thomas Dermine (PS) will allocate 2.4 million euros over the next four years to accelerate research.
