Interview: Tips for employers and employees

In the future, market power will lie with employees h2>

A retention interview is a conversation that takes place between an employer and an employee who is considering leaving the company. The goal of the interview is to get the employee to reconsider their decision and stay with the company. During the interview, the employer will usually ask about the employee’s reasons for wanting to leave the company. The employer will then try to find solutions to these problems in order to motivate the employee to stay. Topics such as career opportunities, working conditions or remuneration can also be discussed. It is important to note that a retention interview is voluntary and the employee should not feel obligated to remain with the company if they do not want to. However, it is an opportunity to clarify open questions and concerns in order to make an informed decision. Good bosses who want to keep their staff respond to workers’ demands.

With an increasing shortage of skilled workers due to the demographic imbalance, the market power lies with the employees, who will be able to express more demands and wishes in the future. Employees should therefore listen carefully and assess whether the company is prepared to sufficiently accommodate their wishes if they are thinking of changing jobs and such a conversation is pending. For bosses, the benefits of retaining good employees are obvious. In addition to the costs of training new employees, valuable and qualified employees are retained and can thus continue to contribute to the company’s success. But how do employers manage to retain good employees? In order to answer this question, it is important to understand what is important to employees in their employment relationship.
