INTERVIEW. The first national drugs commissioner: “Waging the ‘war on drugs’, but still giving them 50 euros every now and then because you are under pressure? That’s not possible”

Ine Van Wymersch (43) has been working as national drugs commissioner since April. Not to tell everyone how to do their work, but to create a laboratory in which it can be tested what does and does not hurt criminals. “My job is like acupuncture. We make it much more difficult for criminals by placing a few targeted needles, rather than by just calling for more armed people.” This is how Van Wymersch wants to approach it.
