INTERVIEW. Brussels public prosecutor sounds the alarm: “We no longer have time for files about ‘petty’ crime”

In ten years there have never been so few magistrates on the public prosecutor’s office in Brussels. And that now drug crime is exploding and Brussels is – sometimes literally – on fire. Experienced magistrates drop out due to work pressure and impotence, says Crown Prosecutor Tim De Wolf (51). He is the highest boss of the Brussels public prosecutor’s office. “We have to dismiss files, while we ourselves would like to respond more strictly, and that weighs emotionally on colleagues.”
