Internment requested for young man who turns Vives upside down

Internment requested for young man who turns Vives upside down

The public prosecutor asks for his internment, but his lawyer opposes it. “It was a difficult search, but now he is well guided,” says his lawyer Stijn Dewolf.

The case was dealt with behind closed doors in the Kortrijk criminal court. “The law provides for that possibility if the public prosecutor requests internment,” said master Dewolf. “My client suffers from a psychological vulnerability and sensitive information is discussed during the plea. Hence the request for treatment with closed doors.” The defense opposes the requested internment on the basis of its own expert report. “It was a difficult search, but now my client is well helped. That goes beyond substance abuse, and he is doing relatively well.”

Jules V. went to the Kortrijk campus of Vives University of Applied Sciences on October 7, 2021 with an airsoft weapon. The police arrived en masse, cordoned off the site and searched all buildings. However, the suspect was able to escape and was only caught hours later after a large-scale manhunt in Avelgem. “My client was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the facts,” said Master Dewolf. He may have had a psychosis due to his cannabis use. The court will rule on the case on February 6.
