The Archives Act is being renewed. This also includes the renewal of the Archives Decree and the Archives Regulations. The aim is to improve the sustainable accessibility of archives and information management in government. This happens in phases. Involving citizens is one of the steps. The internet consultation for the decision and scheme will start on December 15.

Anyone can express his or her ideas about the Archives Decree and the Archives Regulations via internet consultation. The lyrics of it decision and the regulation have been published and can be viewed online.

The consultation closes on Friday 9 February. The consultation period lasts eight weeks. That is longer than the standard period. This was chosen because the consultation partly takes place during the Christmas period.

The government is modernizing the Archives Act, the Archives Decree and the Archives Regulations so that digital information is also properly preserved. Digital information still ends up in various systems that quickly become outdated. The danger of this is that information will be impossible or more difficult to consult in the future.
