Internet consultation on changes to civic integration regulations starts today | news item

The cabinet wants to relax the rules for people who are required to go to school for integration purposes. Some hardships from the Civic Integration Act 2013 will also be removed. These proposed changes to the civic integration regulations were published online for consultation on 1 June 2022 by Minister Van Gennip (Social Affairs and Employment).

Changes to the Civic Integration Regulations 2021

After reaching the civic integration age, young people who are required to participate in the civic integration program have 3 years to fulfill the civic integration obligation. As a result, they can get in trouble with any training they are currently following. The government finds this undesirable. That is why the cabinet wants to establish that following a course is a reason for extending the integration period. This gives those subject to an integration obligation more room to complete their education and to comply with the integration obligation.

Amendments to the Civic Integration Act 2013

Despite the start of the Civic Integration Act 2021 (Wi 2021), the regulations of the Civic Integration Act 2013 (Wi 2013) still apply to everyone who has become subject to an integration obligation before the start of the Wi 2021. In order to limit the disadvantage for this group, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment has conducted research into possibilities for improvement for integrators. To this end, the proposed amendments to the Decree and the Civic Integration Regulations 2021.
