The proceeds on Giro555 for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria have risen to almost 25 million euros, the organization reports on Monday.
The national action is intended to raise money for emergency aid such as shelter, clothing, medical care and food for those affected.
A total of 24,731,078 euros came in for the victims in the affected area. “Help is being offered by all organizations that are currently hard at work there. Think of handing out clean drinking water, food, blankets and warm clothing,” says Michiel Servaes, action chairman of Giro555.
“But much more is needed, because most people still sleep outside and therefore quickly need shelter, sanitary facilities, care and ultimately perspective again. Aid organizations are therefore preparing for a huge operation.”
Giro555
The cooperating aid organizations opened Giro555 last Tuesday, after areas in Turkey and Syria were hit by strong earthquakes a day earlier.
A standings was also announced on Saturday. Then the counter stood at more than 16 million euros. Next Wednesday there will be a national day of action for the victims, in which the national and regional media will also be involved.
