Interim pope Rik Boonkamp already left SEW handball players after one duel

After one game, interim coach Rik Boonkamp has already decided to stop with the first team of the handball players of SEW. That confirms chairman Vincent Baten to NH Sport. Boonkamp takes a step back and continues to train the B-youth.

Recently became a trainer Arthur Langedijk fired from the team from Nibbixwoud. Rik Boonkamp was appointed as interim trainer for the remaining matches. They would finish the season together with Jeroen Smits and Theo Bakker.

Painful defeat against Volendam

Saturday was Boonkamp’s first game. That was painfully lost 30-29 to Volendam. After that game, the interim coach realized that he doubted his decision. His daughter Danique Boonkamp also plays in the SEW first team. There would be noises after the match that he would treat his daughter differently.

“When I heard something about it and realized which way this was going, my decision was completely made. I want her to be able to enjoy handball and move freely within the group. Whether those sounds are right or wrong? It doesn’t matter out, they wouldn’t have been there if I hadn’t said yes. If we had won big on Saturday, we wouldn’t have heard it then, but then it would have happened later,” Boonkamp tells the NHD
