Inter, Lautaro and Juve: resting with Argentina towards the big match

The striker returned to work at Appiano Gentile after just 57 minutes with the Seleccion: he had been a starter five times in his last six matches for the Nerazzurri

Every medal has two sides and, on the two benches of Lautaro Martinez with the Argentine national team, one of the two sides is essentially good news for Inter. Of course, the Bull he would have preferred to be a starter with the Selection in the big matches against Uruguay and Brazil, but from the Nerazzurri’s point of view those 57 minutes played out of a possible 180 are above all 123 minutes saved on the legs and breath of the most important player in the entire squad, moreover with a very delicate direct clash coming up Sunday, Juventus-Inter.

With Argentina

Lautaro returned yesterday – Thursday – from training camp Selection, with therefore three training sessions available to prepare for the trip to Turin: like him, the Brazilian Carlos Augusto, while the Chilean Alexis Sanchez returns to Appiano Gentile today. Even if the first session was inevitably characterized by a little more tiredness due to travel, jet lag and time zone, the 26-year-old from Bahia Blanca is not someone who holds back, especially with the horizon dominated by a crucial match for the season: maximum commitment and dedication, without any discounts. On 17 November against Uruguay he came on at half-time in place of Alexis Mac Allister in the painful 0-2 defeat, while on 22 November he replaced Julian Alvarez for the last 12 minutes at the Maracana away to chaotic Brazil match won 0-1. During the days in South America Lautaro worked hard to maintain top form, but then he wasn’t “squeezed” from the first to the last minute as often happens given the incredible talent that is difficult to do without.

With Inter

Now, in the serenity of first place in the South American qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup – but with the uncertainty of selector Lionel Scaloni, who has resigned -, Lautaro can focus only on his club. Inter is a team that has been traveling at very high speed since the beginning of the season and part of the credit goes to the best finisher – the number 10 – who has never been so prolific in his career. A talent like that, Inzaghi knows well, is difficult to rest: for this reason he started in five of the six matches of the last block, from the October break to the November one. He only rested in the away game to Salzburg on 8 November in the Champions League – playing 22 minutes, with goals, as a second-half substitute – and then scored two more goals in the remaining matches as a starter. With 1271 minutes Lautaro is the most used outfield player in the squad: having saved 127 with Argentina is certainly good news for Inter. “Thank you Scaloni”, Juventus is warned.
